Its present owner John King acquired Nowra Coaches in 1987 as a local route and school bus operation servicing the Nowra region.
The following year the business expanded to incorporate the regions to the south of Nowra known as the Bay and Basin (Falls Creek, Tomerong, Basin View, St Georges Basin, Vincentia and Huskisson). This expansion dramatically improved transport in the Shoalhaven by increasing the frequency of services between Nowra and the southern regions.
In 1990, NCT TOURS and TRAVEL was established by John King and quickly gained a reputation for providing quality affordable tours with professional courteous service.
Located in Sussex Street in the heart of the Sydney CBD, NCT Tours and Travel have, during the past 16 years, been able to develop a vast network of agencies throughout Australia, New Zealand, China and other regions around the world. This has enabled us to provide specialised tours encompassing some of the most spectacular and remarkable scenery in Australia, New Zealand and China.
In 1995 Nowra Coaches progressive and dynamic attitude saw them move into long distance coach operations with the purchase of Pioneer Motor Service, a Nowra based company servicing the south coast from Eden to Sydney since 1929. Shortly after Nowra Coaches expended this long distance operation to incorporate Brisbane with the purchase of Kirklands and Lindsays coach services.
Presently the long distance arm of Nowra Coaches (Premier Motor Service) extends to cover Australia's east coast from Cairns to Melbourne and is considered as one of the most reliable and professional operations of its type in Australia.
2001 Nowra Coaches assumed responsibility for the majority of Wollongong and the Illawarra's route and school bus services with the purchase of both John J Hills and Ruttys bus services. with a combined history of 146 years, Hills and Ruttys were amalgamated to form Premier Illawarra. This new identity is presently creating new and exciting opportunities for the Illawarra region with the introduction of a City to City high frequency bus route system, integrated ticketing and the addition of new low-floor, wheelchair accessible, air-conditioned vehicles.
Today the Nowra Coaches group employees in excess of 300 staff and operates over 220 vehicles of varying capacities and types from school buses to the latest 5 star coaches. The company takes pride in it diversity, service levels and product quality and believes that continued success will be based on its formula of professionalism and sensibility.
